On April 11th, MHRC Project Manager and Psychology undergraduate student, Sophia Futo, had the opportunity to present her research at Michigan State University’s University Undergraduate Research and Arts Forum (UURAF). Her project, completed in conjunction with MHRC and its director, Dr Katy Thakkar, aimed to evaluate 1) motivations for participation in mental health research, 2) recommendations for future mental health research focus, and 3) potential barriers to participation in mental health research as well as requested accommodations to overcome these barriers. This research was informed by MHRC’s participant database and serves to reinforce the importance of incorporating the ideas of those with lived experience of mental illness within mental health research.
